Music
An open-ended program for music and dance — an interaction connecting to dance through human sense alone.
Sound from the guitar is spectrally analyzed and pushed toward spontaneous composition and improvisation. The layers of sound generated in real time shift in density and distance as the guitar's own density changes. Those grains are then distributed across multiple speakers, forming depth as the piece's acoustic space.
Project
The collaboration with Masayuki Sumi since the late 1990s has been an ongoing trial-and-error in physical expression built around improvisation. Working together and feeling a body absorbed in music is, for me, a byproduct that lets me feel music more deeply.
Choreographer
Staging and choreography in the style of the Noh stage, and costume design, by Atsuko Wada.
