Bio

Bio

Tokyo-based electroacoustic composer and guitarist. For over three decades his practice has crossed improvisation, musique concrète, spatialized composition, and sound installation — always treating the guitar as both an acoustic instrument and an electronic source.

Yasuhiro Otani is a Tokyo-based electroacoustic composer and guitarist whose work explores the boundary between acoustic presence and electronic transformation, working across computer-based composition and guitar performance.

His recent work Thresholds of Presence (2025), built from guitar and Sherman Filterbank 2 alone, was selected for Forum Wallis 2026, Switzerland. Previous works have been presented at New York Philharmonic Biennial (2016), ARS Electronica / Forum Wallis (2016), ICMC Perth (2013), Asian Composers League (2012, 2013), Re-new Copenhagen (2011), MUSICACOUSTICA Beijing (2010), and major festivals across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
